Paul Rebukes Peter; Justification by Faith

Galatians 2:11-21

2
Chapter 2
11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong. 12 For before certain ones from James came, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those from the Circumcision. 13 And the rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was carried away with them by the hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they were not walking straight toward the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before all: "If you, being a Jew, live Gentile-wise and not Jewish-wise, how do you compel the nations to Judaize?" 15 We are Jews by birth and not sinners from the Gentiles. 16 knowing, however, that a man is not justified by works of law but through faith in Jesus Christ. And we believed in Christ Jesus so that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of law, because by works of law no flesh will be justified. 17 But if, seeking to be justified in Christ, we were found sinners ourselves also, then is Christ a servant of sin? May it never be! 18 For if I build again the things that I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. 19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ. 20 I live; yet it is no longer I, but Christ lives in me. And the life that I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not reject the grace of God; for if righteousness is through Law, then Christ died gratuitously.
